Hi all I am new to this forum but not new to martial arts. I am very interessted in the historic aspects of Bruce Lee's jeet kune do and especially the differences between "chinatown JKD" and what I call 1973 JKD (JKD's later developments). From my own research I have found that "1973 JKD" uses boxing (and fencing) as the core systems of JKD while "Chinatown JKD" uses more wing chun as the core system. I think this statement is also backed by Teri tom's book The Straight Lead. What is your opinion on this ? Is this also what Ted Wong teaches ? The other day I was watching some old footage of Sugar Ray Robinson on youtube (Bruce Lee liked him a lot) and in many ways it was like watching Bruce Lee

Welcome to the forum Michael. I think that all who research BL’s evolution and development of JKD you will find that there is less resemblance to WC as time went on. Also, what was taught in his schools and what he was working on at his home are different. BL continued to evolve and further himself and his art from the traditional; I find that you will see less rigidity and more smooth efficient movement fed by footwork taking advantage of scientific principals.
